Cihat Yaycı: Sea of Islands Turkey’s friendly approach leads to wrong calculations in Greece and expectation of concessions from Turkey. It is no longer easy for Turkey to reward Greece’s mistakes and faults in front of the Turkish public.
Self-defense Rear Admiral Cihat Yaycı, who came to the agenda with his statements about the problem of islands in the Sea of Islands, brought the issue of EGAYDAAKs in the Sea of Islands to the agenda.
Cihat Yaycı touched upon the issue of forgotten islets in the Island (Aegean) Sea in his article titled “The Problem of Island, Islets and Rocks whose Sovereignty Was Not Transferred by Treaties in the Princes’ Islands,” published in the Journal of Social Policy in Kamu. Stating that the biggest obstacle preventing Greece from turning the Islands (Aegean) Sea into a Greek lake is the presence of EGAYDAAKs, Yaycı stated that the problem in the Island (Aegean) Sea cannot be resolved before the situation of the 152 group EGAYDAAK is clarified, and demanded action on this issue. .
Rear Admiral Cihat Yaycı, who draws attention with his evaluations on the Island of the Island (Aegean) Sea, which has caused conflicts between Turkey and Greece for many years, touched on the problem of Geographical Formations (CF) in the Aegean Sea, namely EGAYDAAK. Pointing to 152 groups of islands, islets and rocks, most of which are in the Eastern Islands (Aegean) Sea Islands region and close to the Anatolian coasts, Yaycı stated that according to international law, the islands do not belong to any state and this situation will not change even in Greece’s actions on the islands.
ACCORDING TO THE LAW, THE ISLANDS DO NOT BELONG TO GREECE!
Müstafi Rear Admiral Cihat Yaycı touched upon the problem of “Islands, Islets and Rocks in the Islands (Aegean) Sea whose Sovereignty Was Not Transferred to Greece” (EGAYDAAK) in Memur-Sen’s article published in Kamuda Social Policy magazine. Pointing out that the problem came to light when Greece tried to resettle 11 small uninhabited islets, mostly in the Eastern Islands (Aegean) Sea Islands region and close to the Anatolian coasts, in November 1995, Yaycı stated that according to international law, the islands do not belong to Greece.
” AT THE ISLANDS (AEGEAN) SEA, THE INITIATIVE HAS BEEN TRANSMITTED TO TURKEY”
“As for the EGAYDAAKs, this truth, which was realized as a result of the Kardak reef crisis and subsequent developments and studies, presented a historical opportunity for Turkey; In the Islands (Aegean) Sea, it resulted in the initiative being transferred to Turkey. After the Kardak crisis, it cannot be said that this initiative could not be used sufficiently as a result of the actions and practices that were not done and should not be done,” said Yaycı, adding that the biggest obstacle preventing Greece from turning the Islands (Aegean) Sea into a Greek lake is the presence of EGAYDAAKs.
“THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM OF THE ISLANDS (AEGEAN) SEA IS EGAYDAAK”
Emphasizing that Turkey should take action on EGAYDAAKs as soon as possible, Yaycı said:
“Despite the completion of the work carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1995-1998, the names of EGAYDAAKs were not officially announced and not shown on the map. Announcing the names of the EGAYDAAKs is a very necessary reality, because without clarification of the EGAYDAAK issue, nothing can be discussed about the delimitation of jurisdictions in the Aegean Sea. Therefore, the most fundamental problem of Turkey in the Islands (Aegean) Sea is the issue of EGAYDAAK.”
“NO SUBJECT CAN BE TALKED IN THE ISLANDS (AEGEAN) SEA WITHOUT SOLVE THE ISLAND PROBLEM”
In the article, Yaycı said, “The sovereignty conflict, which we describe as the main problem in the Sea of Island, is the main determining factor in the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas. In the Sea of Islands, it means territorial sovereignty, in other words, “to which state each existing island, islet and rock belongs to”.
Without putting it on the moon, it is technically impossible to solve the problem of territorial waters, the delimitation of the continental shelf and the exclusive economic zone.” used the phrases.
“THE SUBJECT HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY MAKING COMMITMENTS FOR 25 YEARS”
In the concluding part of his article, Yaycı said, “Land sovereignty and the maritime borders to be determined on this basis will also be decisive for airspace problems in the Sea of Islands. From the very beginning, by making concessions from time to time, Turkey sought the friendship of Greece in every field, especially in the last twenty-five years, but could not find what it was looking for. Turkey’s friendly approach leads to miscalculations in Greece and to expect concessions from Turkey. It is not easy for Turkey to reward Greece’s mistakes and faults in front of the Turkish public. Turkey is not against being friendly with Greece, but now the friendship initiative must come from Greece, as Venizelos did before. made its assessment.
